01 / THE PAYMENT RELATIONSHIP
What is a peptide
merchant account?
A peptide merchant account is a card-processing arrangement for an approved business selling peptide-related products. The term describes the merchant’s activity; it does not certify a product, establish a legal classification, or promise that every item in the catalog can be processed.
The merchant account, payment gateway, and bank deposit are different parts of the setup. A gateway can connect your store to a processor, but a working integration alone does not establish that the acquiring relationship supports your products. Ask which entity is providing the account, who makes the underwriting decision, and who handles account support.

Conceptual flow. The organizations and technical connections vary by provider.
The strongest first question is specific: “Can you support these products, on these websites, for these customers, with this billing and delivery model?” The broader high-risk merchant account guide explains the surrounding application conversation.
02 / RESEARCH-ONLY PEPTIDE PAYMENT PROCESSING
“Research use only”
needs a business behind it.
Research-use-only peptide payment processing starts with the actual operation: what the products are, how they are presented, who can purchase them, and how the seller handles transactions. A footer disclaimer cannot answer all of those questions.
In an August 24, 2026 warning letter to NuScience Peptides, FDA pointed to website claims and product presentation when assessing intended human drug use despite research-only disclaimers. That is a specific enforcement example, not a finding about every research supplier. It illustrates why the full context matters. [1]
“For research
use only.”
One statement on a product page.
- What the product and marketing actually communicate
- Who buys it and the intended use
- How research-customer eligibility is established
- How sales and fulfillment work in practice
A product sold for human use through a pharmacy or clinical model calls for a different review from a genuine research supply business. A supplement merchant account is not automatically the right classification for either one. Describe mixed activities openly and have qualified advisers address the legal classification of the actual products and sales.
Do mainstream processors prohibit every peptide business?
No blanket statement is reliable. Stripe’s published FAQ describes some research peptide activity it allows when preventive measures keep products from nonresearch use, while prescription products require pharmacy approval. That policy is specific to Stripe and is not a promise of acceptance for a particular account or market. Check the current policy and obtain an account-specific answer. [2]
Ask for a decision on your real business—not a promise based on an industry label.
REGULATORY CHECKPOINT / OCTOBER 15, 2026
The industry is moving.
Know what changed.
Peptide-related developments span research, prescription medicines, and compounding. For a merchant, the opportunity is to build a clearly defined operation and find a provider that understands it. A regulatory headline is useful context; the details determine what it actually means for your catalog.
Seven peptide groups
under compounding review.
FDA’s July 23–24, 2026 Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee considered seven peptide families for possible inclusion on the Section 503A bulks list. FDA describes committee recommendations as non-binding. This was a compounding review, not approval of seven new drugs. [9]
| Peptide family | Use evaluated for the compounding review |
|---|---|
| BPC-157 | Ulcerative colitis |
| KPV | Wound healing and inflammatory conditions |
| TB-500 | Wound healing |
| MOTS-c | Obesity and osteoporosis |
| Emideltide / DSIP | Opioid withdrawal, chronic insomnia, and narcolepsy |
| Semax | Cerebral ischemia, migraine, and trigeminal neuralgia |
| Epitalon | Insomnia |
Where that stands: when checked on October 15, the codified 503A bulks list—shown as current through October 13, 2026—did not include these seven families. The rule also distinguishes compounding-list inclusion from FDA approval or endorsement. The meeting therefore does not establish blanket clearance for mainstream production or human-use sales. [10]
What an actual product approval looks like
Recent FDA approvals show that peptide medicines are advancing through specific regulatory pathways. These examples concern named finished drug products and their authorized uses. They do not extend approval to a research supplier’s vial, a different formulation, or an entire peptide category.

FDA also published revised draft product-specific guidance for 17 peptide products, including products containing semaglutide, tirzepatide, and liraglutide. The work supports generic drug development and assessment. Guidance is a development step, not a batch of new marketing approvals. [13]
What the opportunity means for your business
Payment-provider acceptance remains specific to the operation. A provider may support a particular research-only model while declining another catalog, customer base, or sales method. The value of a placement partner is in identifying that fit and presenting a complete, accurate file.
NUMUS’s volume-based placement offer gives research-only peptide merchants a concrete starting point. Established businesses at $100,000 or more in monthly card volume have the 24–48-hour placement commitment described above. Below that level, we can work through a provider search without promising placement.
This checkpoint is dated October 15, 2026. Future revisions should reflect final FDA actions, product-specific approvals, and changes to actual provider requirements. A new headline alone does not change the status of every product or merchant.
03 / MAKE THE REVIEW SPECIFIC
Six things to make
easy to understand.
Payment review is a process of understanding the business and its exposure. Visa’s acceptance standards describe risk-based onboarding, business and principal checks, website review, and processing history. Approval can be conditional. The proposed acquirer determines the requirements and decision for your application. [3]
The entity
Legal and DBA names, ownership, authorized signer, operating locations, and the settlement account.
The catalog
Every current product, its live URL, intended use, source, and any planned additions identified separately.
The customer
Who purchases, where they are located, and the controls used for the research market you describe.
The money
Actual card volume, ticket sizes, refunds, disputes, previous account decisions, and labeled projections.
The delivery
Who holds stock, who ships, delivery commitments, returns, and how support handles exceptions.
The setup
Store platform, domains, payment methods, recurring charges, and the integration you need.
Disclose the actual activity. An inaccurate business description, hidden checkout domain, or another merchant’s account does not solve an underwriting problem. If a provider proposes a merchant classification or setup you do not understand, ask it to explain how it reflects your real transactions.
Make the record useful to a person who has never seen the company. For example, a concise catalog map can connect each product family to its supplier, available documentation, customer type, and sales channel. State what is missing rather than filling the gap with an assumption.
Make the first conversation more useful.
Gather the documents and explanations that tell the full story of your business. This is a preparation checklist, not an approval test. Your reviewer may request more.
No documents are uploaded here. Your selections stay on this page until you leave or reload it. A completed checklist does not establish eligibility or approval.
A CLOSER LOOK / PRODUCT EVIDENCE
A COA belongs in context.
An available certificate of analysis can help explain the testing associated with a particular sample or batch. Organize it alongside the relevant catalog item, supplier record, and batch reference. Check that the document can actually be connected to the product being discussed.
Those records do not, by themselves, establish legal eligibility, FDA approval, or payment acceptance. FDA also distinguishes establishment registration and product listing from approval. Avoid presenting a registration number or test report as an approval seal. [4]
Our packet builder is an editorial preparation aid. Product records and customer-control summaries are practical recommendations; the reviewer may request different evidence. Identity and banking requirements also vary by entity and jurisdiction, as payment-platform onboarding guidance illustrates. [5]
05 / FEES, FUNDING & CASH FLOW
The rate is only
one line of the offer.
There is no universal peptide processing rate. Compare written quotes using the same sales volume, average ticket, card mix, countries, and billing pattern. Identify transaction charges, recurring fees, refund and dispute charges, minimums, integration costs, and any termination provisions.
A reserve and a processing fee are different. A fee is a charge. A reserve withholds money under the account’s terms and may later be released, subject to conditions and deductions. Do not assume a reserve is immediately available cash or that every held dollar is guaranteed to return on a fixed date. Stripe’s reserve guidance, for example, describes risk-dependent amounts and holding periods. [6]
$50,000 in monthly card sales × a hypothetical 10% reserve = $5,000 initially withheld.
That calculation says nothing about the processing fee, funding delay, release date, or whether the business would be approved. Model each item separately.
A fee and a reserve are different things.
Explore how hypothetical payment costs and a reserve affect one month's sales. Change the inputs to compare scenarios. These starting values are examples, not NUMUS pricing or offered terms.
Enter a valid value in each field to calculate your illustration.
Gross sales − estimated fees − newly withheld reserve
The modeled fees and reserve exceed sales. This negative amount illustrates a funding shortfall; it is not a payout quote.
Read the terms, not just the rate. This simple model estimates payment count from sales ÷ average payment. It excludes refunds, disputes, chargeback fees, taxes, product costs, settlement timing, and releases of earlier reserves. Actual fees, reserve bases, release conditions, and funding terms vary by agreement. Reserve funds are not assumed to be released in this illustration.
06 / COMPARE THE COMPLETE ANSWER
Seven questions before
you sign.
Use these questions when comparing peptide merchant account providers. Ask for the applicable terms and the scope of accepted activity in writing. “We work with high-risk businesses” is the beginning of the discussion.
| Ask about | The answer you need |
|---|---|
| Product scope | Which disclosed products, countries, customers, and sites does the proposed account support? What changes require review? |
| Account relationship | Who supplies the acquiring relationship, who makes the decision, and who supports account issues? |
| Complete pricing | What transaction, monthly, gateway, minimum, refund, dispute, and exit charges apply? |
| Reserves & payouts | What is held, how is it calculated, when can it be released, and what can change those terms? |
| Volume & ticket limits | Which limits apply at launch, and how do you request a seasonal or growth-related increase? |
| Technical fit | Does the approved setup work with your exact store, gateway, billing model, and supported payment methods? |
| Ongoing review | How do you report catalog changes, resolve questions, provide records, and handle an account restriction? |
Avoid comparing a fully underwritten written offer with a headline advertised rate as though they were equivalent. Mark unanswered questions and conditional statements explicitly. For a broader cost review, use the NUMUS credit card processing fee calculator.

Apply for peptide processing07 / AFTER THE APPLICATION
Make the customer journey
match the application.
Walk through an actual order from product page to delivery. Clear descriptions, contact details, fulfillment policies, currencies, and secure checkout help a reviewer understand the transaction. Stripe’s website checklist is a useful preparation reference, while each provider sets its own expectations. [7]
- BEFORE THE ORDER
Make the offer understandable.
State what is being sold, who it is intended for, and the applicable purchasing conditions. Keep shipping, returns, refunds, and any recurring billing terms easy to find.
- AT CHECKOUT
Make the payment recognizable.
Confirm the store’s identity, currency, total price, and customer support route. Ask the provider how the charge will appear on a statement and communicate it clearly.
- AFTER THE SALE
Keep the evidence connected.
Organize order details, policy acceptance, customer communications, shipping evidence, and refunds so the team can reconstruct what happened without searching separate inboxes.
Visa’s dispute guidance emphasizes clear policies, recognizable transaction information, and timely handling of disputes. Good records support a response; they do not eliminate chargebacks or guarantee a particular outcome. Follow the actual deadlines and instructions provided by your acquirer. [8]
When inventory is late, the next action should be operational: communicate the revised expectation, explain available options, and document refunds or cancellations. Do not let the website, support team, and fulfillment partner promise three different things.
08 / STARTING OR SWITCHING
No history? A prior decline?
Start with the facts.
If your business is new
Say so. Bring business and ownership information, available banking records, the planned catalog, customer process, supplier relationships, fulfillment plan, and estimated volume. Label projections as projections. Ask what the proposed provider can consider when prior processing statements do not exist.
If another provider declined or closed the account
Keep the original notice and any reason actually supplied. Separate a product-policy decision from a documentation gap, a dispute problem, or a technical issue. If you do not know the reason, record it as unknown. Explain genuine changes and unresolved obligations without assuming another provider will reach a different decision.
See the high-risk account overview for the wider review process. ACH may be a separate conversation, but it still requires a provider that supports the disclosed activity. The high-risk ACH guide covers its distinct fees, returns, and requirements.
Before adding products, changing your audience, launching a subscription, or expanding into new markets, ask what your provider needs to review. An account accepted for one operation is not a blanket acceptance of every future activity.
09 / ANSWERS BEFORE YOU APPLY
Peptide payment
processing, clarified.
Can research-only peptide businesses accept credit cards?
Some eligible businesses may be able to after provider review. The answer depends on the exact products, intended use, customers, locations, and operations. Ask the proposed provider to assess the whole business and identify the accepted activity in writing.
Does “research use only” guarantee approval?
No. It is a description that must be consistent with the actual business. It does not replace a review of the product, website, customer controls, and transactions.
Can NUMUS help below $100,000 in monthly card volume?
Yes. We can look for a provider willing to support your business. Your file may need more than one review, and placement is not guaranteed. Give us the actual volume and available statements, even if the business is new.
Did FDA approve the seven peptides reviewed in July 2026?
Not through that advisory meeting. The dated FDA developments section separates the review from actual product approvals.
Does a COA mean the product is FDA approved?
No. A certificate of analysis is a testing document, not an FDA approval or a bank’s acceptance of a merchant. Keep the report connected to its sample or batch and describe its scope accurately.
Are research peptides the same as supplements for processing?
Do not assume that classification. Explain the products and intended use accurately. Research supply, dietary supplements, pharmacy, and clinical activity can call for different assessments.
Can a startup apply without processing statements?
Ask which alternative records the proposed provider accepts. Present the business plan, available banking evidence, product and supplier information, and clearly labeled projections. Missing history should remain visible.
How long does peptide merchant account approval take?
For research-only peptide businesses processing $100,000 or more per month in credit card volume, NUMUS guarantees placement within 24–48 hours after your full application and supporting documents are complete. The clock starts at application completion, not the first inquiry. Below that volume, placement and timing are not guaranteed; we may need to approach multiple providers. Placement timing is separate from technical integration and payout timing.
Is ACH a way around a card-processing restriction?
No. ACH requires its own supported arrangement, authorizations, and return controls. Disclose the business to the ACH provider and confirm eligibility before use.
Does the placement guarantee mean a reserve-free account?
No. The NUMUS placement guarantee for qualifying research-only businesses does not set the rate, reserve, funding schedule, or processing limits. Review those terms separately before accepting an offer.
